Bela - She’s America ’s
Sweetheart! Audiences still don’t believe that this talented Indian
singer was born and raised in America. Bela has
made her presence known in the South Asian community
all across the United States through her music.
Born in Canada, Bela was brought up in various parts of the U.S., including
Atlanta, North Carolina, New York & New Jersey.. Bela comes from a talented
musical family, and it is their support and encouragement that has enabled her
to pursue & achieve the goals she has set out for herself.
Not having learned the various languages until her teens, Bela started her
foray into music by singing film songs in Hindi, ghazals in Urdu, folk songs in
Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Rajasthani, Sindhi, & Bengali, as well as Sufi.
Bela’s numerous achievements include First Place & Grand Prize trophies at
a national level music competition in the U.S. Bela has performed live in
concert with popular singers such as Kunal Ganjawala,
Hariharan, RDB, Atif Aslam, Josh, Sukhbir, Faakhir, Shaan, Rex D'Souza (Fame
Gurukul), Shradha Pandit, Runa Laila,Falguni Pathak, Shehzad Roy, Munni Begum, Ustad Hamid Ali Khan to
name a few - but her greatest honor thus far in her career was the featured
opening act for the legendary Ustad Ghulam Ali.
She has performed before various dignitaries, including the Late Mrs. Coretta Scott King, the Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi,
former ambassador to the U.S. – Mr. Siddharth Shankar Ray, the former President
of Panama, to name a few. She has also performed for South Asian
community organizations across the country, including AAPI,
NETIP, AAPNA, PLUS, FIA Independence Day Celebrations, Indian Diamond &
Colored Stone Association, theNargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, to name a
few. Bela has also performed on the Masala Cruise
several times in 2007. She has been promoted under the Musik Waves
banner in USA from 2003.
Bela has recently completed the recording of her first music album, with the
support of her husband, Kinjal Modi, and
anticipates a North America album release in 2007.
Bela is a graduate of the Rutgers University in New Jersey, with a double major
in Economics and Political Science. She has worked for two major corporations -
ADP and Dow Jones, and was on track to a
lucrative career in the financial services sector before deciding to
concentrate full-time on her first and foremost passion of music. Bela’s other
interests include books, travel, cooking, movies, law, international politics,
and human rights issues.
